Chelan County Neighbors, Did you know that the slope of your land is very important in relation to fire risk? Typically, because heat rises, a fire on slope pre-heats any fuel (grass, debris, trees) uphill, basically making it ready to burn faster. This is why it is critical to manage your slopes effectively to ensure that fuel is managed to avoid critical damage. This is what I was doing in this photo. I wanted to remove as much fuel/debris downslope from this tree, while taking care to keep enough of the duff (fungus/microrhyzomes) on the ground to be beneficial to the tree and surrounding ecosystem.
